From Concept to Final Asset: How I Produce Beauty Content That Performs

By Brighton Sharbino  ·

The best beauty content looks effortless on screen, and every effortless frame starts with a clear concept, the right talent and a plan for where the asset will live.

For twelve years I have produced my own photo and video content for a 2.5M+ community across Instagram (@brightonmaia) and TikTok (@brightonsharbino). I'm also a Partner at Symbols PR in Los Angeles, where I build creator and brand partnership programs, and an actress since 2012, so I have spent a lot of time on professional sets. Here is how I approach creative content production for beauty, fashion and lifestyle brands, from the first idea to the final asset.

Start with the concept and the channel

Every shoot I plan starts with two questions: what is the story, and where will people see it? A TikTok, an Instagram carousel, a product page and a paid ad each ask for something different. Deciding the channel first shapes everything that follows, from aspect ratio and pacing to wardrobe and lighting. That is the heart of platform-native content: it is built for the feed it lives in, never resized as an afterthought.

Casting and briefing talent

The right face and voice can make a launch. At Symbols PR I source and brief creators and talent, and I work with their reps and agency partners on rates, deliverables and timelines. A strong creative brief gives talent the key message, the must-have shots and the brand guardrails, then leaves room for personality. My years on sets for AMC's The Walking Dead, Sony's Miracles from Heaven and HBO's True Detective taught me how directors, photographers, stylists and producers work together, and I bring that discipline to every brand shoot.

Low-fi and high-fi beauty content, side by side

Great beauty content production today runs on two tracks. Polished, high-fi assets carry campaigns and launches, while low-fi, phone-first content builds trust and keeps the feed feeling human. I shoot, style and edit both myself, delivering 4K stills and video ready for social, e-commerce and paid use. My Sephora x Benefit Cosmetics concealer launch reached 17.2M views with 14.2% engagement and 1.4M likes, and my Glossier Balm Dotcom content reached 577K views. Both worked because the content felt real and still looked beautiful.

Usage rights, contracts and budgets

Production does not end when the camera stops. Before a shoot, I make sure everyone agrees on usage rights, whitelisting, deliverables and timing, so the brand can use the asset where it needs to: organic social, a product page, a retail screen or a paid campaign. Clear terms protect the talent and the brand, and they keep a great asset from sitting unused while lawyers trade emails.

Editing, approvals and brand consistency

Editing is where a shoot becomes a story. I edit with the channel in mind, keeping hooks tight for short-form video and letting product texture breathe in stills. Then the content goes through approvals with a clear eye on brand guidelines, so every asset feels like it came from the same world. Consistency is what turns a run of posts into a recognizable brand look.

Measure, learn and produce the next round

I track views, engagement rate, likes and saves on every piece, and I use the results to refine formats and the content mix. Sacheu Beauty reached 765K views at 11.7% engagement, Revolve 2.6M views and Fashion Nova 1.2M views at 10.4% engagement. Each result tells me what to make more of next time, which is how a single shoot grows into a repeatable content strategy.
